IWE Celebrates Pre-Apprenticeship Program Completion

Â鶹´«Ã½ Celebrates Graduates of Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program

The Â鶹´«Ã½ program hosted a graduation celebration for its General Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Program on August 24 on its Romeoville campus. Sponsored and funded by the and , this program equips participants with essential skills for careers in the construction industry.

The event recognized 80 graduates who completed the 12-week program in Aurora, Grayslake/Waukegan or Joliet/Romeoville. The program’s curriculum, delivered by the Â鶹´«Ã½ Institute for Workforce Education (IWE), included nationally recognized certifications in OSHA-10, Flagger, NCCER, and First Aid/CPR. These certifications are critical for securing positions within the construction industry, with 61 graduates already successfully applying for union jobs.

Javier Garibay, Ed.S, Executive Director of IWE, opened the ceremony, underscoring IWE's mission to provide high-quality, bilingual workforce development services across Illinois. Dr. Norman Ruano, Illinois Works Officer and Deputy Director at DCEO, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of such programs in building a skilled and diverse workforce.

State legislators, including State Representative Dagmara Avelar, State Senator Meg Loughran Cappel, State Senator Rachel Ventura, and State Representative Harry Benton, also congratulated the program on its positive impact on individuals and communities.
